Delhi is taking a major step toward a sustainable future. Under the newly drafted Master Plan of Delhi 2047 (MPD-2047) approved by the DDA, the capital aims to turn its existing canals and drains into hubs for clean energy generation. This proposal tasks authorities with assessing the potential for both solar and hydro power. The initiative aligns with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s vision for a green budget, highlighted by an ongoing pilot project to install solar panels along a six-kilometer segment of the Najafgarh drain. Ultimately, MPD-2047 weaves renewable energy and resilient green infrastructure into the very fabric of the city's urban growth.
